Colne Valley Museum

The Colne Valley Museum is an independent charity run entirely by volunteers which was founded in 1970, with the aim of safeguarding the domestic textile heritage of the West Riding of Yorkshire and keeping people, especially children, informed of the lives led by our predecessors. The charity, which has a membership of approximately 300, of which 70 - 80 are active volunteers, is entirely run by and managed by unpaid volunteers. School visits, mainly Key Stage 1 & 2, form a major part of our core work and continues to thrive with children spending their time with us living as Victorian children.

The Museum until 5 years ago was housed in 3 weavers cottages - the 'Dream' was always to purchase the 4th cottage. We started to 'Realise the Dream' when the 4th cottage was purchased and we were awarded an Heritage Lottery Fund development grant. We have now been awarded an Heritage Lottery Fund delivery grant and with your help can start 'Sustaining the Dream'.
