The Human Milk Foundation
The HMF provides grants to families to access screened, safe donor milk to feed babies who cannot receive enough or any of their own mothers’ milk. Access to safe donor milk that has been processed by a human milk bank has been limited to only the sickest, most premature babies for the last 30 years. The HMF aims to change this - to support milk banking and research that is independent. The Human Milk Foundation supports mothers to establish their own breastfeeding if struggling in the first few days after birth by providing grants for lactation support, as well as donor milk to supplement feeds. The HMF will also provide grants for longer term donor milk provision when mothers are undergoing cancer treatment, unable to breastfeed for medical reasons, or adopting. Over time, we will provide larger grants for critical research into how breastfeeding helps to reduce the risk of women developing aggressive breast and ovarian cancer in later life.
